I was lucky enough to be invited to join the Ladbrokes Blogger table at the Galway Races last Saturday with some of the loveliest fashion bloggers Galway has to offer. As I’m quite new on the scene, it was a great opportunity to make connections as well as getting to enjoy a second day out in some fancy race wear!
Naturally I was incredibly excited to be invited along, but before the event I was definitely feeling a little nervous as I wasn’t really sure what to expect. But, once I arrived at the racecourse and met the lovely Laura and Sophie representing Ladbrokes as well as the other bloggers, I was able to relax and enjoy. The bloggers I was lucky enough to spend the day with were Julia from Love Joules (who I’ve done a shoot with before), Ruth from Fashion Truth by Ruth, Sandra from A Modern Mommy’s World, Rebecca from Bec Boop, Aisling from Beechmount Art Studio, Leanne from It’s All About Being U and Dianne from Dianne Du Jour. And, after jumping straight in to take some fabulous shoe selfies and group shots at the gate, I knew we were in for a top day!
After bracing the gusty winds and the persistent photographers who were not deterred by hats/dresses/hair flying around (I personally had an unfortunate hat-chasing moment), we made it to the Plate Suite in the Killanin Stand. The view of the racetrack from our table was fabulous which meant I didn’t have to venture outdoors to cheer on the horses and risk losing my beautiful Emily O’Regan Millinery headpiece! We were treated to a beautiful meal from Lydon House Catering and had the chance to place some bets in between courses. I have absolutely no clue when it comes to horse racing so I stuck to backing horses whose names or jockey’s uniform I liked best. Needless to say, I did not have any winners on the day!
Despite not having any luck on the track, I had a wonderful day and it was great to get to know the girls. That is definitely the way to go racing, especially if you’re with a group. Huge thanks again to Ladbrokes for the invitation! The Saturday of the Galway Races had a great buzz minus the wall to wall craziness of Ladies Day, so it might be enough to tempt me back next year… Perhaps I’ll do a little more research next time before I place my bets though… I might manage to bring in the big bucks yet!
