If you live in Ireland like myself, or somewhere with a similar climate, you’ll no doubt be sick to death of hearing the phrase “Winter is coming”. But alas, as much as we don’t want to find ourselves in the midst of the impending frost, it’s time to dig out the Winter woollies and brace ourselves for the chill.
I’ve lived in Galway for about five and a half years now, so over this time I’ve learned to adapt to the cold and to update my wardrobe accordingly. Initially, it was hard to shake the notion that Winter fashion equalled dark colours, excessive layers and practical footwear. But over time I’ve realised this doesn’t have to be the case. Just because the days are getting darker, doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to! Take a nosy at my key Winter warmers to shop now that will be sure to put the fun into functionality (apologies for the terrible wordplay)!
I nabbed this little beauty of a jumper from Daisy Street on ASOS for a mere €27. Unfortunately, it seems a lot of other ladies loved it just as much because it’s sold out! But do not fear, I’ve got you covered with a multitude of alternatives available to shop RIGHT NOW!
Stripes
As you can see from my outfit here, I’m a fan of colour AND stripes. A winning combination to add some sass to even the most cold and miserable of Winter days! Just add denim, sock boots and your coat of choice (if you live in Galway, it’s most likely going to have to be one with a hood, let’s be honest!).
Colour Pop
A block coloured knit is amazing for capitalising on the tonal dressing trend. For example, if you’re wearing a bright pink jumper, pair it with blush pink trousers or jacket for a bold, yet polished look. And if you’re feeling brave? Then go all out and rock that one colour head to toe!
Statement
On nights out in Winter, it can be hard to ditch your knitwear in favour of a shiver inducing party dress. So why should you? Slip on a statement knit that is edgy, yet cosy and pair it with jeans and a slick heeled boot. I did this recently for a night out with these boots and couldn’t have felt better!
So that’s my colourful knitwear hit list for AW17. Let me know your favourites or if you’ve seen any on the market you think I need to have a look at! You know me, always on the prowl for the next cool thing!
Until next time,
Sinead
