NYFW Street Style

With New York Fashion Week having drawn to a close and London kicking off today, it seemed only fitting to recap my favourite street style looks from the past week. I’ve been a huge fan of street style for a long time, and even though there are some who believe it’s all a bit ‘mainstream’ now, I still love checking out all the images and being inspired by what is being worn to fashion week. Haters gonna hate and all that!

I particularly loved how dressing down seemed to be a key trend on the streets of New York this season. There was plenty of denim, sneakers, slides and loose, effortless tailoring. Of course these were all worn in a chic, sartorial manner, but it seemed like there was a lot less “peacock-ing” (to quote one of my fave bloggers, Zanita Whittington). The attitude was a lot more laid back and less “look at me!” but still had plenty of pizzazz. As a lover of denim and relaxed tailoring, I found this super exciting.

Another reason why I love the concept of dressing down, is it reminds me that you don’t need to be dressed up to the nines and all glammed up to look fabulous and fashionable. I think this is a trap I fell into a lot when I was bit younger and ran the risk of looking like I’d tried too hard or ended up feeling way too overdressed for certain occasions. Of course it is still wonderful to get all kitted out from time to time and there are events where it’s important to abide by the dress code, but it’s nice to know that sometimes the simple looks can be just as cool. It’s how you add your own spin and personal style that really makes the outfit!

So here’s my top picks from the streets of New York Fashion Week. Which is your favourite and what trends are you loving? Be sure to leave it in the comments below!
