Basic Instinct

Every girl has her wardrobe staples and certain pieces she can’t help but turn to time and time again. Might sound repetitive, but sometimes those go-to faves are the key to a winning outfit formula.

For me, I’ve long been a die hard jeans and a t-shirt kinda gal. I have a fairly extensive denim collection and my assortment of t-shirts seems to be ever expanding. And when it comes to outerwear, I’m pushed to find a more reliable companion than my trusty biker jacket. The thing about dressing for summer in the west of Ireland is that more often than not, jeans and a jacket are still highly weather appropriate! Where’s the sunshine at Galway?!? Hence, here is one of my favourite outfits built on a few of my surefire wardrobe staples:

The Biker Jacket

The perfect weight jacket for the Irish summer and still effortlessly cool. There’s a reason the biker is a wardrobe staple for so many girls! Mine was a steal from Zara (similar here), but check out these options to shop as well:

  1. Steal: H&M
  2. Spend: Topshop
  3. Splurge: Maje

The Breton Tee:

The humble breton tee. Pioneered by the beautiful, effortlessly chic women of France and adopted by those of us who are endlessly enamoured by them and their style. Classic and comfortable but still keeps you looking pulled together! Shop my picks below:

  1. Steal: ASOS
  2. Spend: Whistles
  3. Splurge:  Etre Cecile

The Straight Leg Jeans

Bye-bye skinny jeans, helloooo straight legs! Well, for the most part anyway. I’m sure skinny jeans will always hold a place in our wardrobes, but for me right now, I think a straight cut easily adds an edge to even the simplest of outfits. I bought and cut these vintage babies from Public Romance in Galway but there are great buys on the high street as well! Check ’em out here:

  1. Steal: H&M
  2. Spend: Levi’s
  3. Splurge: M.I.H.

The Crossbody Bag

It’s not often you’ll see me without a small, but still practical crossbody style handbag. Just big enough to fit my essentials, but compact enough that it’s not going to get in the way. I picked up this Coach beauty at work in Brown Thomas last year and I have used it non-stop since! Black is the way to go for an everyday fail safe bag in my opinion too. Works for all seasons and all occasions!

  1. Steal: Mango
  2. Spend: COS
  3. Splurge: Marc Jacobs

The Elevated Sandal

The Irish weather can be unreliable, but any opportunity I have to get away with wearing a sandal, I take it! The perfect day-to-night shoe for me is a polished, but cool block heel sandal. It elevates my casual day wear without having me tottering around like Bambi on ice and if I end up heading for dinner and drinks later, I don’t feel too under dressed.

  1. Steal:  ASOS
  2. Spend: Tony Bianco
  3. Splurge: Sandro

The Round Sunnies

There’s photos of my dad over the years wearing shades just like these, so it’s funny that I’ve ended up with a penchant for the metal roundies as well. I have a decent enough collection of sunglasses in various shapes and colours, but these Topshop babies are the ones I keep coming back for.

  1. Steal: Topshop
  2. Spend: Quay Australia
  3. Splurge: Ray Ban

Hope you enjoyed being basic with me and taking a look at some of my wardrobe staples. Would love to hear your tried and tested outfit formulas as well! Always looking for another stylish secret or two…

Until next time,

Sinead x
